Privacy policy
Last updated: June 23, 2026
This policy describes how Motion for Change (“we,” “us”) handles information when you use this service to submit motions and support requests related to your elected representatives. We keep data practices narrow and aim to be easy to read.
Information we collect
When you use Motion for Change, we retain:
- Your email address
- Your state and city, town, or area
- Your legislative district(s)
- Any motions or support requests you submit
Identity verification
To confirm that you are a valid U.S. resident of voting age and to determine your districts automatically, we perform U.S. state ID checks. We do not retain personally identifying information from your state ID. We keep only an anonymized hash of your state ID details to prevent double-counting users.
Cookies
We set login cookies so you can stay signed in while using the service. These cookies are used only for authentication, not for advertising or cross-site tracking. We do not use analytics or advertising cookies on this site.
How we use your information
All data we retain is used strictly to enable you to use the service and for us to manage and follow through with your requests—that is, to operate Motion for Change. This includes emailing you about next steps and letting you log in to manage your submissions.
Sharing
We do not share or sell user data to third parties.
Technical logs
Like most web services, hosting infrastructure may automatically generate technical logs when pages are requested (for example timestamps, IP addresses, and requested URLs). We do not combine those logs with analytics products, and we do not use them to build individual visitor profiles beyond what is needed to operate the service.
Changes
We may update this policy from time to time. The “Last updated” date at the top will change when we do.
