Motion for Change

Turn frustration into action.

Say what you want changed in Danville. We verify you live here, we don't keep your home address, and we publish the count.

Verified, so it can't be waved away.

Every signature is proved to come from a resident of the district. No bots, no out-of-town signatures, no duplicates. When a council member says “those aren't my constituents,” the answer is on the record.

Private, so you don't pay to participate.

To sign in we ask for your email address, which we keep to run your account. We don't ask for your name. When you verify, your wallet shares your address with our identity service, which checks it against the district; our petition system receives only the district-level result, never your name or street address. You keep your driver's licence on your phone, and we don't retain it.

Published either way.

Every result gets posted, whether it helps our case or not. Support and opposition both. That's the point — a record you can check is worth more than a number you have to trust.

How it works

  1. Say what you want. Your words, no forms.
  2. If someone already asked for the same thing, we'll show you their wording — join it or start your own.
  3. Verify you live in Danville using the ID already in your phone's wallet. Takes about a minute.
  4. We publish the count and deliver it to the Town Council.

The site is currently in a private prototype stage; these steps describe how it will work.

Questions

Why do you need my driver's licence?

Because unverified petitions get thrown away, and we'd rather be the thing that can't be thrown away. The licence proves you live here. Our petition system doesn't receive your name or street address.

Do I need to be a citizen or a registered voter?

No. We measure residents, not voters. If you live in the district, your view counts here.

What if I don't have a mobile ID?

Then you can't participate yet, and we can't fix that — it's a state and phone-maker rollout. It'll reach you eventually.

For the Town, staff and press

Motion for Change is a measurement instrument. It reports counts. It does not lobby, does not endorse, and does not editorialise. Petitions are submitted by residents; we do not choose the subject matter.

What is verified

Each signature is bound to a valid state-issued mobile driver's licence with an address inside the district. One credential, one signature. The set of signature identifiers is published in an append-only log, so a technically competent third party can confirm the count was neither inflated nor selectively reduced — without revealing who signed.

What is not verified

Residency is proved. Voter eligibility is not, and cannot be — a driver's licence does not establish citizenship, and minors are excluded by licensing age rather than by design. Signers are self-selected volunteers, not a probability sample; the count reports who chose to participate, not what the district as a whole thinks.

What you receive

The count, the support/oppose split, the methodology, and a link that lets your own technical advisor verify the total. Nothing else.

What we ask

Nothing, in this phase. Results are published whether or not the Council engages with them.
